Solar Power in Turkey
Turkey is an emerging country that achieved substantial growth in the past 13 years. Together with the economy, the energy need and supply has been growing as well. The installed electricity capacity in Turkey has increased from 32,000 MW in 2002 to 72,000 MW in 2015. As the economy continues to grow, additional power plants will be needed to provide the necessary electricity.
Currently, more than 60% of the electricity generated in Turkey comes from fossil fuels, most of which are imported. Therefore, the Turkish government set ambitious targets to increase the renewable energy sources. The goal is to generate 1/3rd of the electricity from renewable energy sources by 2023. To achieve this, several incentives for renewables have been implemented.
